As Head Of Production for HuffPost video I oversaw the daily and weekly output of several series, one of which was “This New World.”

For each series I lead the core team of producers editors, cam-ops and directors to define and articulate the visual language of the series - from types of shots used, editing style, and graphical treatments. This work resulted in not just consistency and continuity between episodes, but also formal documentation which allowed us to have the series produced by multiple teams and freelancers when necessary.

The “This New World” series was unique in that we were able to work with animator Tom McCarten for the first six episodes. We later had to have our in house editors create simplified but related data-visualizations.

In working with Tom my role was to make sure he had access to a cleared library of source images and understood the journalistic guidelines HuffPost follows around image use. During the creation process I weighed in on drafts with the producers and joined in final QC and sign-off.

In the second phase of the project I worked with our editors to create some episode specific data viz pieces to live within the episodes. We ensured these pieces had a visual connection to Tom’s work in color, texture and tone.
